Growing competition between telecom operators in Nepal

Ncell which made investment of more than 100 crore US dollar in Nepali telecom sector is challenging Nation's ex-largest telecom operator Nepal Telecom. Ncell is always trying to capture Nepali telecom market and to large extend it has been successful on its move.

Let me talk a bit about some old memorable events from the list.

Ncell has sponsored cellroti.com to let us legally download 1974 A D 's latest album aath athare(8/18). And if you are confused with the meaning of the name of the album, its a release date of the album that is August 18, 2010. It is first time in history of Nepali music to let users download music for free and its not from new singer or band, its one of the most famous band from Nepal. I just checked the cellroti.com and seems like the company is doing few other quite a new things in Nepalese music history which includes providing crbt to not only Nepali telecom operators but also to Indian telecom operators, selling songs from nokia ovi store and iphone music store.

Ncell already introduced blackberry service and as you may already know, blackberry RIM (Research in Motion) is one of the best recognized brand among European businessman though it is almost a feature phone to me. I don't know what's so special about blackberry but its supposed have pretty good push mail client as well as messenger. If you don't know about push mail then in simple language its almost a pop/imap client except that mails are pushed from server instantly at arrival rather than checking mail on predefined interval from client side. The blackberry set plus service from Ncell will cost 50 thousand rupees but if you already own blackberry then you can pay monthly rental for internet facilities which is different for individual user and corporate user.

While they are offering high end blackberry for medium and high class users, they haven't forgot about general Nepali users and hence they have a starter package outside bagmati zone as well as in bagmati zone by now. In quarter package you can get a black and white ZTE handset and Ncell sim for just Rs. 999 and ZTE colour set and ncell sim for Rs. 1199.

Its not only Ncell who is fighting for existence but NTC is also trying to do something. They do provide discount offers occasionally including bonus recharge cards. They started to sell sim cards to tourists right from international airport. And now they are trying to hook up with telephone dealers of various brands to sell their 3G sim card just for Rs. 150 with 75 rupees balance along with the purchase of 3G mobile in order to promote their 3G service. Ntc had introduced 3G service three years back and yet the users are too less than they've ever expected. They offer discounted sim cards and data cards time after time but its all about charging subscribers less rather than providing better quality.

So hold your breath tight and see who will win and who will loose in this mega battle between two telecom titans of Nepal.
